Retalliation

Retalliation was the first...and probably only...prison death metal band. This demo was recorded inside NCCI Gardner State Prison, Massachusetts, by four inmates. Two of them were charged with armed robbery and the other two were charged with second degree murder. There was a music program in the prison, which is how they managed to record an album. By the time the cassette was released, it was too late for the warden to do anything about it. From what I remember, they were banned from the music program after that.

The sound quality wasn't the best due to the circumstances under which is was recorded. However, the cassette was printed up professionally and it was well circulated within the underground music scene. Almost every fanzine that was floating around at the time wrote about them. They did A LOT of press and then they just kind of faded out. But, they made their mark. Last I heard, two members were released on parole. I don't know if it's true or not. So, don't quote me on that.

Demo Collection

If you go to my Pennsylvania music blog, I have a demo collection posted there as well. As for the one that you see here, this is what's included in the download.

New Jersey: Candy Azz - 1987 - 5 songs
New York: Chinatown - 4 songs
New Jersey: Pompeii - 1989 - 4 songs

Not sure what year the Chinatown demo is from. It came with a collection of other releases and most of them were between 1985 and 1990. So, I figure it's around the same time as everything else. Don't quote me on that because I could be wrong. Also, included in this download is a 6 song demo from Savage Rose and an 8 song demo from Sweet Pain. Don't have a date on the Savage Rose release. Sweet Pain was 1985. I'm not sure where either band was from. They might be from Pennsylvania, New Jersey or New York. Again, don't quote me on that...I could be wrong.

The quality of these recordings vary from band to band and I don't have any artwork for these releases. I don't think there was any to begin with. Anyway, here's the links...enjoy.
