I'm gonna finish up the Halloween holiday with a live recording from my favorite indie band, Witches In Bikinis. Of course, they're the perfect band for the holiday season. But, they're not a band that's limited to a single day. Witches In Bikinis are a full time band and they do what they do all year round. They're a combination of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Elvira mixed with a little bit of rock 'n' roll, surf and the girl group sound of the 70's. There's something for everybody...audio and visual. They're a total entertainment package in every way, shape and form.
Now, this recording, as well as their debut release (which is posted below) features the previous line up, which is the line up that introduced me to the band. I have to point that out because they have a whole new line up now. It's a totally different band with a whole new personality and, truth be told, they've improved a great deal, which doesn't really suprise me because they've gotten better and better every time I saw them. From the first show with the previous line up to the last time I saw them with the new Witches. There's always something new and that's something you don't see too often these days. The real beauty of this band is the fact that they don't limit themselves. At first glance, okay, maybe you can stick a label on them and say that they're this kind of band or that kind of band and you have them in a nice, neat little box. However, if you really pay attention, there's not a box big enough to hold them back. They can add almost anything to their sound and it won't seem out of place. For example, the Witches In Bikinis sound doesn't have anything in common with rap music. Yet, they've done a show or two with a rap band and it seemed like a perfect fit. I've seen them share a stage with a rock band. I've seen them share a stage with a band that brought Duran Duran to mind...and it worked. Actually, now that I think about it, this show was recorded on a night when they had a rap band open and close for them. I was there that night (obviously) and even though they were two totally different bands with totally different styles, it was a perfect match.
So, if you haven't heard Witches In Bikinis before, be sure to check 'em out. You won't be disappointed.
Happy Halloween.
